There is firm evidence to support the benefits of acupuncture in increasing your IVF success.  A meta-analysis study of 25 high-quality randomised controlled trials (RCTs) published in the Archives of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in July 2023 concluded that acupuncture can significantly improve live birth rates and clinical pregnancy rates among women undergoing IVF.  This was one of the largest studies of fertility acupuncture use in IVF, involving just under 5000 women.  It found that fertility acupuncture treatment can increase live birth rates by 33.8%

Yes. Many patients choose acupuncture alongside IVF treatment. Acupuncture is often used as a complementary therapy alongside conventional fertility treatment and many practitioners recommend a course of treatment before and during an IVF cycle. Optimal results are achieved when we have a chance to work together for around 3 months before but if you are only looking at acupuncture for the time around IVF then that is also fine and treatments can be tailored around your treatment protocol plan. Herbal medicine most often has to be stopped during IVF but acupuncture is beneficial with some clinics actually having onsite Acupuncturists working for them.

Every fertility journey is different. Following your initial consultation, Hayley will create a personalised treatment plan based on your health history, fertility goals and individual circumstances. 3 months preparation time is ideal and these should be spaced about a week apart. Around the time of stimulation, trigger and transfer sessions are planned specially around these. Weekly sessions during the 2 week wait and first trimester are also recommended but flexibility is always accommodated.

Many women with PMOS choose fertility acupuncture as part of their wider fertility and wellbeing support plan. Treatment is always tailored to your individual symptoms and goals. Acupuncture can help with cycle regulation and ovulation. Commonly this is combined with western medical intervention such as prescription medication like metformin. The combination of medication and acupuncture can really help. Inflammation and addressing issues around insulin resistance is also important

Acupuncture needles are extremely fine and most people find treatment relaxing. You may feel a mild tingling sensation or dull ache when a needle is inserted, but treatment should not be painful.

Many practitioners recommend starting fertility acupuncture several months before trying to conceive or beginning IVF treatment. This allows time to develop a personalised treatment plan and provide ongoing support throughout your journey. If you are reading this page then I would suggest ‘no time like the present’ . Ideally at least 3 months of preparation time is ideal but if you are starting IVF next week then I would say as soon as possible but remember acupuncturists tend to have a bit of a busy diary so planning ahead in useful and avoids disappointment if you cant get booked in

Your initial consultation is £65 and lasts approximately 90 minutes. During this appointment, Hayley will take a detailed medical history, discuss your fertility goals, carry out pulse and tongue diagnosis, and provide your first acupuncture treatment.Follow-up appointments are £50 and last approximately 60 minutes. These sessions include ongoing assessments, acupuncture treatment and any additional therapies recommended as part of your personalised treatment plan.
